What is Forward Collision Warning and Collision Mitigation Braking?
May 31 2019,
Honda has become a leader in active safety technology development over the years with its Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance systems now offered on every new Honda vehicle. Often included as standard equipment, Honda Sensing is a range of active safety technologies that include Forward Collision Warning and Collision Mitigation Braking.
Active safety technologies refer to systems that are designed to prevent accidents by issuing warnings and then intervening if the driver fails to react. Forward Collision Warning and Collision Mitigation Braking are two perfect examples of a traditional active safety system.
Forward Collision Warning uses a small camera on the windshield to detect vehicles ahead of your own and can detect if that vehicle brakes suddenly. The system will then sound a warning to give the driver the opportunity to react. If that doesn’t happen, then the Collision Mitigation Braking system is called upon to apply the brakes and reduce the risk of a serious collision. This all happens in a matter of milliseconds and can mean the difference between a collision and simply a close call.
